From Guarulhos it's roughly five hours to Paraty. Here's how to cover the distance in comfort, on a budget, or behind the wheel.
São Paulo's main international gateway is Guarulhos (GRU); Congonhas (CGH) handles domestic flights closer to the city, and Viracopos (VCP) sits out in Campinas. From any of them, Paraty is a road trip over the Serra do Mar and up the coast.
A private transfer from GRU runs door to door in about 5 to 5.5 hours, over the modern Rodovia dos Tamoios and up the coastal BR-101. It's the easiest way to arrive after an international flight — no mountain driving, no toll fumbling, no bus connection across São Paulo. Bianca can arrange one with a trusted driver; send her your flight details.

Coaches to Paraty leave from São Paulo's Terminal Tietê, the city's main long-distance bus station, reachable from GRU by the Airport Bus Service or by metro/taxi. The journey along the coast takes roughly 6 to 7 hours — longer than from Rio, since the route curves through the mountains and up the shore — but it's inexpensive and comfortable. See our bus guide for details.
Renting at GRU gives you freedom once you arrive, and the Tamoios–coast route is a genuinely beautiful drive. The caveats: it's long, the Serra do Mar can be foggy, and doing it straight off a red-eye is a lot. If you're tired, transfer in and rent locally later.
For a smooth arrival with luggage and family, book a transfer. For the lowest cost, take the bus from Tietê. For maximum flexibility on the beaches and waterfalls, rent a car. As always, tell Bianca when you land so the chalet is ready and, if you'd like, a driver is waiting.
Pick your chalet and check live dates on Airbnb, or message Bianca first — she'll help you plan transfers, tours, and the little details.
